QUEEN’S INTEREST
IN NEW ZEALAND. AT INDUSTRIES FAIR. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, Feb. 21. The opening day of the Empire section of the British Industries Fair saw a triumph for Mr AV. J. Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner, who was the only High Commissioner to get Queen Elizabeth inside his stall. AVhen the Queen arrived she was followed by an immense crowd. She was met by Mr S. M. Bruce (Australia), Mr Jordan, and the representatives of the other Dominions. After inspecting the first stall the Queen went on to the Australian', chatting brightly with Mr Bruce. Almost immediately Mr Jordan stepper forward and, to the obvious surprise of tlie Queen’s personal attendants, he persuaded her to enter the New Zealand stand, where they talked for some time, the Queen remarking on the loveliness of the New Zealand countryside and the excellence of the Dominion’s products, especially butter and honey. The Queen showed particular interest in the display of New Zealand rugs. Mr Jordan asked her whether she had brought back a rug from her visit to New Zealand and then suggested that she accept one. The Queen replied: Yes, they are lovely things. I am sure my daughters would like one very much. The crowd surrounded the stands ten deep. The exhibits are quite up to the standard of previous years.
