FOXTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON,- Feb. 22. Mr and Mrs R. Read, of Union Street, left yosterday on a motor camping tour of the north. Tho death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Friday of Mrs Rachel Ann Rout, relict of the late Mr H. IT. Rout, of Union Street, aged 67 years. She Icavc3 two daughters, both of Foxton. Ihc funeral took place on Monday morning and was conducted by Rev. E. W. Bul'gin. Mr and Mrs W. M. Thomas and family left Foxton on Monday on route to Motueka, and Mr A. V. laylor of Christchurch, has assumed charge of the local branch of the Commercial Bank ot Australia. The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital with tragic suddenness on Sunday, of Mr George Storey Smith, aged 20 years. Deceased was tho only son of Mr and Mrs S. E. Smith, of Levin Road, Foxton. He was an employee at Messrs Wostwood Bros.’ flaxmill and became ill quite suddenly a few days ago, when he was rushed to hospital, but it was found impossible to do anything for him and he passed away. , At the monthly meeting of the Beach Improvement Society a motion of sympathy with tho relatives of the late Mr A. G. Dawick was carried, Mr Pcrroau referring to the excellent, work carried out by Air Dawick during his long association with the beach. It wa3 decided to write to the Harbour Board on several matters pertaining to the resort. Mr Ingram agreed to make inquiries with regard to having a test made of the artesian well water bofore proceeding with the piping of a supply to the shelter shed, Mr Alsop offered to procure a photograph of the late »Mr Dawick for placing in tho Beach Hall, which offer was availed of. It was decided to get in touch with the Surf Club and endeavour to arrange a sports meeting during Easter week, also community sings, the proceeds to go to the club. It was decided to ask leaseholders to clear their sections of lupin and to top trees where necessary, in an endeavour to reduce the fire menace. Mr Rosvall offerod to donate oil drums for the purpose of converting them into rubbish containers .the offer was accepted with thanks.
