CHRISTCHURCH CASE.
UNUSUAL ASPECT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 22. “I have just found out that mv name was signed to this cheque,” said Mr D. J. Hewitt, counsel for Abraham Luke Adams, aged 27, who admitted in the Magistrate’s Court this morning that he had attempted to obtain goods and money by a valueless cheque. „ , ... Detective-Sergeant J. Bickerdike said that after filling in a blank cheque Adams attempted to cash it at a grocer’s shop, but the proprietor was suspicious and asked him to cash it elsewhere. Later he admitted it was valueless and tore it up. Mr Hewitt said Adams only came out of prison on Monday for a breach of the Bankruptcy Act and intended to behave himself. A gaolbird gave him a blank cheque and, after carrying it for two days, he yielded to the temptation when he had had a lew drinks and filled it in, using counsel s name. 'Adams was ordered to come up for sentence within two years if called upon.
