ROTARY CLUBS.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 22. Warm tributes to the work of Rotary in New Zealand by Hon. D. G. Sullivan and the Mayor (Mr J. W. Bealand) marked the opening ot the 16th Rotary Conference to-day. The District Governor (Mr F. Hall-Jones) presided. . Every club in New Zealand is represented and the proceedings are expected to last three days. The mon-political nature of. Rotary was emphasised by Mr Hall-Jones. He referred to the attack made on the Government by a non-Rotarian speaker at a club gathering last year, and said that the president of the club had obtained an assurance that the speaker would not touch on party politics and did everything in his power to minimise the harmful effects of the incident. As a result he was afraid that a false and hostile impression of Rotary had been created among a large section of the public. He asked the conference to pass a rule proviaing power for the president to interrupt anv speaker at a club luncheon who touched on party politics or other forbidden ground. The resolution will be discussed later in the conference.
