SCHMELING’S WIN.

BOUT WITH THOMAS. NEW YORK, Dec. 13,. The German heavyweight boxer, Max Schmeling (14st) defeated Harry Thomas (14st OJlb) on a technical knock-out in the eighth round. Thomas won the first, third and fourth rounds, the fifth being drawn. He was warned by the referee in the second. Schmeling winning the round on a foul. Joe Louis, who was a spectator, said; “I want to get a look at Schmeling from the outside. Maybe I will spot the weakness in his defence as he did in mine when I was fighting Uzcudun.” Thomas, who entered the ring first, was mildly applauded. Schmeling received an ovation. * Schmeling opened quietly, withholding liis- attack till the second round when he crashed a stinging right to Thomas’s head, following this with two lefts and another right. When the fourth opened Schmeling’s nose was bleeding and Thomas’s lip was cut. Thomas Joosed a barrage of lefts and rights to the body forcing Schmeling to give ground. In the next round, which was drawn, Thomas had Schmeling spinning around, but he appeared to be tired, missing two rights to the head. Both men stood up to terrific battering in the sixth. Schmeling drove Thomas to the -ropes where a series of rights and a left had him groggy, and he continued the punishment in the seventh. Thomas was down at the bell. Schmeling knocked Thomas down for a count of one when the last round began. Thomas offered little resistance, being knocked down five times before the referee intervened.

BRADDOCK AND FARR. NEW YORK, Dec. 14. The boxing promoter, Mike Jacobs, announces that James J. Braddock and Tommy Farr have been matched for a 10-round bout at the Madison Square Garden on January 21. BAN ON CARNERA. ROME, Dec. 14. The Boxing Federation has ruled that Primo Camera shall not be allowed to box abroad in future after his recent performance in Paris.
