BIG SHARE DEAL.

INTEREST IN THEATRICAL CIRCLES. Received December 15, 8.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 14. Considerable interest has been aroused in theatrical circles by the announcement that the New Zealand Investment Trust has acquired the majority of the holding of J. C. Williamson shares. Sir George Tallis, interviewed, said he had nothing but the warmest admiration for the way his co-directors, the Taits, had conducted the business of the company. Mr E. J. Tait, interviewed, said that he and his co-directors were “not concerned about the sale of shares by individual directors. It always had been the policy of the Taits that the operations of the company should be considerably extended, but in this regard their views had not been supported by the particular interests which were reported as having sold their shares.” Mr Tait added that he would welcome the new blood if it meant support for a progressive policy.
