SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

ASSOCIATION MEETING. A special meeting of the Feilding District Public Schools’ Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening, Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick presiding. The questions before the meeting were: The question of the deletion ot the pay-out to schools for points won at tlio sports and also the matter of trophies generally; and that the title of the . association be altered to read the “Feiluing and District Primary Schools Amateur Athletic Association.” After a lengthy discussion it was decided that there be no alteration made in the practice of the association in paying out to schools on points won by competition and that the competition for several championship trophies he continued. The meeting agreed to the alteration in tho name ot tiie association. Several teachers were of the opinion that certificates should replace uypiiies, and Air W. H. Smith, headmaster of the Lytton Street School, said that many city schools had sent their trophies to the education boards for safe keeping, having abandoned competition for trophies. The chairman said that the association had functioned for 17 years, and he thought the constitution had stood the test; lie did not think any change was necessary. He, however, respected the viewpoints of the teachers. It was stated, thar there were 3U schools in the association, but only a small number of them had responded to the invitation to be present. Mr Amadio felt that if any alteration in the past policy of the association was made it would' sound its death knoll. “That is the last thing f want to see,” he aci;»'d. Mr C. V. Jewel] upheld the competition for stating that some of the trophies competed for had been given by pioneers of the association. The chairman appealed to those present to make the sports day an outstanding day in the year, and he urged co-operation in that direction.
