GLEN OROUA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN OROUA, Dec. 13. At the final meeting of the School Committee for this year the following were present: Messrs IV. H. Foster (chairman), J. Herdman (secretary), A. T. Bailey, H. W. Carter, F. Webb, and S. G. Parlane (head teacher).. The principal business was in connection with the annual breakingup concert and prize giving, for which the arrangements were made. Messrs Webb and Carter agreed to supply the material needed on the stage, while Mr Foster stated that he would erect the necessary scenery, etc. The bead teacher reported that approsTmately *ls had been collected for the picnic and prize fund, the residents of the district having responded most generously, notwithstanding various other calls. The head teacher was authorised to purchase gift books as usual, including those for children under school age. The roll number was at present 77 and approximately half a dozen ' pupils would be leaving. The roll number for the next year should be about the same as at present. The 6wimming bath rules were revised, and a copy is to be posted on the bathing shed. A return cricket match was played at Glen Oroua between the Taikorca and Glon Oroua School cricket teams. The visitors batted first and were dismissed for tbe small score of 5 runs. Glen Oroua replied with 40 (C. Webb 16. I. Parlane 5, N. Ihlo 5). In their second innings Taikorca fared somewhat better, making 17 (A. Hill 6). Glen Oroua were thus the winners by an inning 3 and 18 runs. All the Glon Oroua players had a turn at bowling, the most successful being T. Hunt, W. Garner, M. Beattie. I. Parlane, N. Ihlo, and E. Webb. For Taikorea, A. Hill, R. Mudford and R. Murphy shared the wickets. Tho opening of the Te Kawau Tennis Association’s compel itions took place on Saturday, when the Glon Oroua A team wa6 opposed to Kopane A at Kopane. The home team proved much too strong and ran out easy winners by 13 sets to 3. Kopane B played Glen Oroua B at Glen Oroua and a more even match resulted, both teams winning 8 sets, but Kopane held the advantage by one game, scoring 67 to Glen Oroua’e 66. Glen Oroua were one player short, but N. Ihle and I. Parlane played the extra games. Following are detailed scores, homo players being mentioned first: —Women’s singles, Mrs Milne lost to Miss B. Ihle beat J. Witton, 6—2; I. Parlane beat A. Hill, 6 —5; I. Parlane beat R. Winters, 6 —l; women’s doubles, Mrs Milne and Miss Parlane boat Misses B. and P. Jones, 6—3; Mrs Locke and Miss Carter lost to Misses Glasgow and Beattie, o—6; men’s doubles, Algar and Ihlo boat Thompson and Witton, 6—4; Ihle and Parlano beat Hill and Winters, 6—2; mixed doubles. Algar and Mrs Milno beat Thompson and Miss B. Jones, 6—l; Ihle and Miss Parlane lost to Witton and Miss P. Jones, 5—6; Ihle and Miss Carter lost to Hill and Miss Glasgow, 3—6; Parlane and Mrs Lccke i beat Winters and Miss Beattie, 6—l.
