NURSES IN SPAIN.
NEW ZEALANDERS’ SERVICES. APPRECIATION EXPRESSED. Per Press 'Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. A tribute to the work of the New Zealand nurses in Spain is paid by Mr G. Jeger, secretary of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, London, in the course of a letter to the secretary of the New Zealand committee, Mr E. W. Hunter, of Dunedin. Mr Jeger says; Your three nurses are doing excellent work in the English hospital at Huete, where they are very popular and very much appreciated.
Acknowledging the donation of £l6O from the New Zealand organisation, Mr Jeger says the money is being spent on requirements for a new hospital.taken over at the request of the Spanish Government. “This hospital has at present 643 beds, of which 500 are occupied. During tile attacks a few weeks ago over 5000 patients passed through this hospital. We have been asked to modernise it and train Spanish nurses there.” Mr Jeger adds that 550 new beds are required in connection with the extensions planned by the committee, which is also equipping a new mobile surgical unit consisting of several vehicles capable of transporting to the front lines at short notice all the requirements for an operating theatre and a small emergency hospital.
