CRICKET AT WELLINGTON. COUNTRY FIVE FOR 143. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. The Town v. Country cricket match is being played on a wicket not unduly affected by yesterday’s rain. The outfield is fast. The weather is warm and close. Christensen (Taranaki) was replaced by Hatch (Manawatu) and O’Brien (Hawke’s Bay) by D. A. Rees. - Country won the toss and Robertson., and Rees opened to Wilson and O’Neill. Runs came at a reasonably fast pace. Ashenden at 28 relieved O’Neill, and with his third delivery skittled Rees. —32—I—l 6.1 —16. Murchison came in and 50 appeared on the board after 45 minutes. Robertson went at 73 to a trap by Ashenden, who was bowling particularly well. Donnelly was greeted with applause and at once settled down, but after five singles he played too soon in endeavouring to hook a. short one—--86—3—5. Murchison was beaten all the way, 88 —4—21, and Ongley went without scoring.—B9—o—o. Norris and Hook brought up 100 at 95 minutes’, play, add Hook lifted Ashenden to long-on for six. After taking three for 40 off ten overs Ashenden was relieved by Griffiths, and Q’Neill was given a turn at the other end. Neither batsman was being worried, and Ell took over from Griffiths, whose two overs had realised 22 runs.

The score at noon was 72 for one (Robertson 43, Murchison 12, extras 1). At' lunch the score was 143 for 5 (Robertson lbw, b Ashenden' 43; Rees 1» Ashenden 16; Murchison b Ashenden 21; Donnelley 1.b.w., b Wilson 5; Hook not out. 31 ; Ongley b Wilson, 0; Norris not out, 26; extras 1). COMBINED SERVICES CLUB. A team from the Combined Services Cricket C]ub will play three matches at Napier during the Christmas holidays., as follow; December 27th a.nd 28th, versus Taradale; December 29th and 30th, versus Napier; December 31st, versus Hastings. The following players will leave by cars from the Post Office at 1.45 p.m. on Sunday, December 26; L. V. Winks, E. Hornibrook, W. Elley, W. Millar, M. Watson, G. McKenzie. E. Elley, R. Morgan, J. Mitchell, H. Shailer, F. K. Robbie.
