AWAHOU NORTH.
PRESENTATION FUNCTION. The school room at Awaliou North was filled to its utmost capacity on Saturday evening, when the settlers in the district foregathered to bid farewell to Mrs H. Painter and Mr W. Anderson, who are both leaving the district after many years’ residence. After an enjoyable game of euchre, Mr E. C. Spelman asked Mrs Painter to accept a gift from her many friends and voiced regret at her impending departure. Mr J. Brown responded on behalf of Mrs Painter. Mr W. Anderson was also presented with suitable gifts, and in reply thanked his many friends for being present and for their great kindness. Mr Spelman said he had a more pleasant duty to perform and asked Miss Kathleen Caldwell, who is to be married shortly, to accept, on behalf of the settlers, the numerous parcels which he hoped would be useful in her new home. Mr I. Sherens replied on behalf of Miss Caldwell'. After supper dancing was enjoyed and Auld Lang Syne was sung at midnight.
