EIGHTS OF MAORIS.

UNDER PETROLEUM BILL. PLEA BY HON. W. MOFFATT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dee. 10. The Legislative Council met at 10.30 a.m. , , The Petroleum Bill, the State Advances Corporation Amendment Bill, the Dog Registration Amendment Bill, the Agriculture Workers Amendment Bill and the Wellington City Empowering and Amendment Bill were received from the House of Representatives. Speaking to the second reading of the Petroleum Bill, Hon. W. Moffatt referred to the rights of Maoris and said that the Maoris considered they had a sacred right to all things appertaining to their land. He expressed the hope that the rights of the Maoris would be given full consideration when the question of royalties was considered later. The measures were passed and the Council adjourned at 12.10 until Tuesday, March 1.
