At a meeting of the Foxton District High School Committee a letter was. received from the Royal Humane Society, acknowledging receipt of the committee’s letter' supplying details in regard to tho action of the lad, Allan Sim, in attempting to rescue tho late Mr A. W. MoPluiil from drowning at Manawatu Hoads. The society enclosed an award form for the committee to fill in and return. Tho Wanganui Education Board advised that the school would be graded VIA from February 1, 1938, and that Miss Yorke had been appointed to tho position of permanent assistant. The District Dental Superintendent wrote supplying particulars in connection with the establishment of a dental clinic in Foxton, and advised that the department was prepared to grant a subsidy Of £2 for £1 in this connection. The opening of the Foxton Surf and Life-Saving Club took place on the ocean beach on Sunday afternoon, Mr J. Linklater (patron) performing the ceremony and congratulating the captain (Mr G. Shaw) on the appearance of the teams and the fact that two patrols would be operating this season. He roferred to tho good work being done not only by the local club but by surf clubs generally throughout the Dominion.. The B toam gave a demonstration of life-saving at the conclusion of the ceremony. This was followed by an alarm which shows the precision with which the patrol works in actual life'D. Cormac, of Palmerston North, is spending a holiday at Manawatu Hoads. Mr M. Baird, of Foxton, who is undergoing training as an Air l'orce reserve pilot, has gained his A certificate, Candidates 'presented for pianoforte examinations by tho Convent were successful. Results:—Junior: Leita Evans, 84, merit. Advaijeed preparatory: Joyce Chrisfensen, 81 merit; Verna Smith, 76, merit. Preparatory: Maureen Connell, 78, merit; Mildred Conlan, 78, merit First steps: Lyalla' Pikhaloff, 85, honours; William Christenson, 81, merit; Nina Pikhaloff, 7.5, merit; Kathleen O’Donoghuc, 75. merit. Initial: Louis O’Donoghuo, 82, merit. Commercial results: Shorthand. Maisie Petersen 95£ per cent; typewriting, Mawie Petersen, 89 per cent.; bookkoepmg, Mawio Peterson, 89 per cent
