The summer competitions of the Palmerston North Golf Club commenced on Sunday, when the first round for the Berryman Cup, a bogey handicap, was played. The links were in first-class ortier and there was a good attendance of players. W. Aiken was the winner, gaining 3 points, with E. Wilson (2 points) second and E. Simpson (1 point) third. The next round is a medal handicap which can be played at any time during the week ending next Sunday. Players are to obtain ca.rds signed by the club professional before commencing play. During .the • summer a four-ball competition has also been arranged, for which some handsome trophies have been provided. Each pair is to play every other pair, and the winners of most games carry off the prizes. The condition of the links has been greatly improved during the last few weeks, and judging by the number of entries so far received this should prove a record summer season.
