SMART PERFORMANCE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Nov. 24. An outstanding performance was registered at the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club’s carnival to-night by Miss J. Macdonald (Southland) in the 110 yards women’s short-limit backstroke handicap. Miss Macdonald, who is only IS, covered the distance from scratcli in l'min 25 l-osec, being timed by three watches. To ensure selection in the Empire Games team, the New Zealand council set a standard for this event of 85sec. Miss Macdonald’s time was therefore only one-fifth of a second over this time and was three-fifths of a second outside tlie New Zealand record for 100 metres held by Miss Ena" Stockley. •
