INSTITUTE OF SECRETARIES.

MANAWATU CHAPTER. The annual dinner and meeting of the Manawatu chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries was held on Saturday. Members and their wives from YVellington, Wanganuii Marton, YVoodville and Palmerston; North attended. The chairman (Mr H. E. Kiss]ing) presided. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) officially welcomed the visitors and sa.id he hoped that they would enjoy their brief stay. He also said that this was one of the rare occasions on which he had extended welcomes of being a member of the society thus greeted. (Mi* Mansford is a member of tho chapter.) Many apologies for absence were received. including that of Mr J. An-nand-Smith, president for New Zealand of the institute. After the loyal toast, that of the YVellington Chapter was proposed by the chairman, and Messrs C. fe. B. Lambert and F. C. McNeill replied. The annual meeting then took place. Mr F. Gatley, of Palmerston North, was elected president of the chapter and Mr A. YVay, of Marton, vice-pre-sident; Mr G. N. Hawken, secretary and treasurer; committee members, Messrs G. H. Dawiek, H. YV. Mmlanev, H. E. Kissling, A. P. Stuart, A. S. Trevithick, J. YV. N.-Moulton, W D. McLeod, G. N. Boulton, D. B. Sladden, R. D. Smart, D. S. Keay and H. B. Quigley The gathering concluded with a theatre party, and golf was played over the week-end.
