TARIFFS INCREASED.
AUCKLAND PRIVATE HOTELS
EXPECTED TO BE GENERAL.

Private hotel tariffs in Auckland will be raised from to-day by 10 per cent., and it is understood that similar action is likely to be taken by proprietors in southern centres. 11l a letter to proprietors the secretary of. the Auckland Provincial Hotel Proprietors’ Association states that the question was discussed at a general meeting of members on Thursday last when it was unanimously agreed to increase all rates by 10 per cent, from August 31. Opinions were freely expressed hv those present that the proposed increase was necessary to meet the added costs of commodities and catering. It is stated that Canterbury and Otago proprietors have notified their agreement, costs having risen 26 per cent, since July, 1936.
