CHINESE ADVANCING.
SUCCESS AT HONGKEW. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 27.. The following cablegram was received by the Chinese Consul from Nail j king' this morning : At present the Chinese forces are fighting strongly at the Hongkew and Yangtse-poo sectors and arc advancing steadily towards tho waterfront. Fighting has occurred oil the Pinchan front at Moierliling, Ping-tingslian, Nanliyuan, in the vicinity of Fangshan and at Lianglisiang. Hie Chinese maintained tlieir positions in the faco of a heavy artillery attack and later repulsed the enemy in a counter-at-tack. , On the Nankow front the Chinese defenders made a flank attack Inst night, inflicting heavy losses upon the aggressors. Two more Japanese heavy bombers were shot down last night when nine ’planes raided Nanking, which remains untouched after numerous Japanese an raids lasting ten days. The Japanese ’planes also bombed Ningpo and Nanking yesterday, inflicting minor damage. ’ ___
