SCHMELING’S CHANCES. Received Julv 24, 10.10 a.m. WASHINGTON, July 23. The National Boxing Association rates Max Smelling as No. 1 contender for the heavyweiglit championship and recommends that he be matched for it on the basis of “pure sportsmanship.” It names Braddock as the second contender.
BLATCH TO MEET GUGGINO. Received Julv 24, 10.10 a.m. NEW YORK, July 23. Alf Blatcli will be matched against Red Guggino on July 29 instead of against Zivic, who is off colour. Mr Lucas, Blatch’s manager, interviewed by the Associated Press, said that Guggino was officially rated a« sixth among the lightweights. “It will be a stiff fight, but Blatch’s form is better than ever in bis life,” said Mr Lucas. “He has overcome his nervousness and has settled down to the climate. His future is dependent on his showing against Guggino and good matches are promised if he is successful. 9
