FEILDING BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Feilding Bowling Club was held last evening, the president (Mr C. M. Sargisson) being in the chair.

Mr AV. N. Jones, now of Reinuorn, tendered his resignation as a member owing to his having left the district. — Received.

The report (previously published) and the balance-sheet were received and adopted. Commenting upon the report, the president said that the position of the finances was satisfactory. He expressed regret that several members were at present indisposed. Messrs Duncan and A. AVilliamson were at present in Fiji. The speaker said that with care the club’s position would continue to improve. AA ages had cost £SO more than last year; however, the bank overdraft had been reduced and on the year’s working the club was £ls better off. Several new members were likely to join up in the coming season, and tlio present members should not have many calls made upon their pockets; subscriptions would remain at the same figure as last year. Itcverting to a discussion on the bal-ance-sheet the chairman explained that in the report it was stated that the ladies’ efforts had resulted in the raising of £SO. Actually they had raised £65, but the discrepancy was shown in the gala day receipts, which _ included the £ls; the amounts raised by the ladies and the men had been pooled and shown as one item. Commenting on the balance-sheet. Air J. Bartholomew said that the club’s position was very good, and it could look forward to brighter times. A number of building society shares would mature next'yoar and the bank overdraft would become non-existent. He moved the adoption of the report and balancesheet. Mr J. E. Barltrop, in reply to a question asked by Air J. Logan, said that in his mind all entries for out-

side tournaments should be handed into the secretary and not sent privately. It was decided that a letter of sympathy with Air Bramwell, scnr., in his illness bo sent from the meeting. The election of officers resulted: — President, Air A. Williamson; vice-pre.-sidenl, Mr AV. H. Duncan; lion, secretary. Air J. E. Barltrop; auditor, Mr T. S. Goldsmith; committee, Alessrs C. AT. Sargisson, H. Davidson, A. G. Alurch, J. Logan, F. Aloore, A. E. Bamsav, D. Finlay, AVatt, and J. Ncilson ; delegates to centre. Messrs J. Bartholomew and A. AVilliamson.

A vote of thanks to the greenkeeper (Air AV. H. Duncan) was carried and it was decided to send him a letter of appreciation. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Barltrop (secretary), and the retiring president (Air Sargisson), on behalf of members, presented him with an eight-day oak chiming clock as a token of appreciation of his services, together with the esteem of members. Afr Barltrop expressed his surprise and appreciation for the gift. Air Bartholomew moved that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that inter-club matches be arranged early in the coming season. The motion was seconded by Air Logan and carried. Air Alurch, referring to the work of the retiring "president, said that Mr Sargisson had piloted the club through two difficult years and the thanks of members were due to him for his untiring efforts. Alembers agreed that they owed much to Air Sargisson, and a motion of appreciation was carried by acclamation. “It has been an honour and pleasure to me to be the president of the club for the period mentioned,” said Afr Sargisson in -reply. “I have had the whole-hearted co-operation of the committee. secretary and members, and my work has not been difficult. Although I am no longer president I shall continue to help in every way to ensure the progress of the club,” concluded

Air Logan said that there was a spirit of comradeship displayed in bowling clubs which was not so apparent in other sports bodies. A bowler could call into any bowling green in the Dominion and could be assured of a welcome. No green fees were charged, and the cordiality of a visitor’s reception made him feel at ease immediately.
