IN THE BRITISH EMPIRE. The little-known island of Bahrein is likely to become a household name in the near future. The development of vast oil fields and the erection of a huge refinery on the island by the Bahrein Petroleum Company, a British company, is of vast importance to the British'Empire. Bahrein is now a base for the British Navy and it is likely to become one of the chief seadromes of the East. Bahrein enjoys the protection of the British Government and is the only oil field that can bo absolutely secured by the British Navy. The Under-Secretary for India has stated that Bahrein enjoys His Majesty’s protection, and the British v«overnment have undertaken to supply armed forces to protect the territory.
