FIRE HAZARD.

SHOWGROUNDS IMPROVEMENT,

Following the receipt of a letter from the Palmerston North Fire Board requesting the provision of fire-fight-ing appliances at the Showgrounds, the finance committee of the Manawatu and AVest Coast A. and P. Association submitted the following recommendation to a meeting of the general committee to-day : —“That the association instal a 4-inch main" to the southern corner of the entertainment hall and that the president fMr J. A. Russell) and secretary (Air Hugh Kissling) interview the superintendent of the Fire Brigade (Mr P- A. Alilverton) to see if he would be satisfied if some fire extinguishers were installed in place of the hoses mentioned in the board's letter.” The finance committee reported that there had also been received a plan from the city engineer (Mr J. R. Hughes) showing the complete scheme and indicating the section that, would satisfy the Fire Board’s requirements at the . present time. The committee decided to instal the 4-inch main as outlined, it being felt that the association’s funds would not allow of expenditure beyond that involved.
