FRUIT FLY DANGER. lAIPLIED IN PROCLAMATION. RECTIFICATION PROBABLE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 16, 9.55 a.m. • CANBERRA, July 16. The recent proclamation prohibiting the export of citrus fruit to Norfolk Island has placed the Commonwealth Government in a difficult position. The Commonwealth has always contradicted the contention that the New Zealand Government ban on Australian oranges is necessary to eliminate the danger of introducing the Mediterranean iruit fly, hut the proclamation stated that the object of the bail on the export of citrus fruits to Norfolk Island was to prevent the introduction of the fly there.
It is likely that the proclamation will be amended.
