SPREADING SUNSHINE.

GIFT TO AWAPUNI HOME. FOUR CHAIRS PRESENTED. AVith the primary object of presenting the inmates of the Awapuni Home with four beautiful fireside chairs, the Palmerston North Sunshine Club visited the home yesterday afternoon. The inmates and visitors gathered in the room converted into a spacious hall by means of folding doors, which, was in use for the first time since improvements have been effected. A bright fire blazed cheerily, and vases of golden-yellow and green leaves were a decorative note. Representing the Palmerston North Hospital Board at the gathering were Air J. A. Nash (chairman), Mr A. J. Phillipps (managing-secretary), and Airs AI. Aitchison. In presenting the chairs to the matron of the home (Aliss D. AY right), the club’s president, Airs E. L. Christian, said that members had thought they would like to add to the comfort of the room. The object of the club was to scatter sunshine wherever they could, she added. Returning thanks, Aliss A\ right said that the chairs would be greatly appreciated. Air Nash, speaking on behalf of the Hospital Board, extended to Airs Christian and other club membeis heartfelt thanks for the generous gilt. The improvements carried out meant that the room in which they were gathered would make it possible lor concerts of some magnitude to be held at the home, and the chairs were a timely gift. The Sunshine Club was well named, and if members continued to spread sunshine in such a manner they would be carrying on a wonderful work. Ho was sure the inmates would appreciate the chairs, as well as the entertainment provided during the afternoon. . Mr Phillipps expressed appreciation of the entertainment provided by Air J. Selwyn who, though a busy man, had found time to come to the home, and also of the kindly acts of the Sunshine Club and similar organisations in visiting the home. All through the hospital district splendid support was given by the women, and he was pleased to have the opportunity of acknowledging it. Die programme opened with community singing led by Air Selwyn, who was assisted by Airs Iv. Jones, Air D. Reid, and Mr’ Nash as accompanists. Mrs Bigham, who is always a popular contributor, sang “Annie Laurie,” “Coming Thro’ the Rye,” “The Flora Dance,” and “The Kerry Dance,” and led the community singing with Airs \Y. H. Boon at the piano. Two little pupils of Aliss .lune Scott delighted the gathering with tap dances, Aliss Scott playing the accompaniments. Joy Burrell, who was wearing a tiny suit of gold la me and black,, and. a quaint cap adorned with a glistening gold leaf, captivated her audience. Coralie Blinkhorn was attired in a white satin sailor suit with ,a sailor hat, and was a charming contributor. Afternoon tea was served, the dainties brought by visitors being greatly enjoyed. Air H. J. Canton, on behalf of the inmates, thanked the visitors, and said that their next visit would he keenly anticipated. Alusical honours and cheers were heartily accorded the •'inmates:
