Mrs J. Donald, of AVarea, New Ply mouth, is visiting Palmerston North.
Mrs 0. H. Williams, of Elmira Avenue, left Auckland this week for Honolulu, where she will spend the winter months. While in Auckland she stayed with her sister, Airs H. C. Gregory. Miss Freda Doherty, of Ivairanga, who underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Palmerston North Hospital, is now making a good recovery, her friends will be pleased to learn.
After visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs C. F. Purton, of Linton Street, Airs L. 0. Jones has returned to Epsom, Auckland. Airs Jones will return to Palmerston North, to take up her residence in about a fortnight’s time, as her husband will in tuture make this city liis headquarters.
Aliss Rosemary Rees, the novelist, who left New Zealand several weeks ago for Sydney to complete a new '■"olc 'ms hnJ"to abandon her work for a time owing to serious illness. At tiie College Street School ball, last evening, there was a pleasing ceremony when Aliss G. AlcDiarmid, formerly of the school staff and recently transferred to Foxton, was made the recipient of a chormium bedroom clock, suitably engraved. Speaking on Irehalf of the combined committees, Colonel J. H. Whyte referred to Miss AlcDiarmid’s faithful service over a period of five years.
As the result of being thrown from her horse when her mount lost its footing during the progress of a hunt meeting at Takapau on Wednesday, Aliss Ailecn Hobson, daughter of Air and Airs H. Hobson, of Hatuma. suffered head injuries which necessitated the insertion of several stitches. Aliss Hobson is a well-known equestrienne who has competed at Alanawatu Shows. She was conveyed to a hospital at Waipukurau, her conditions being as satisfactory as can lie expected. Two old and highly respected residents of Alangatainoka. Afr and Airs P. Alullan, celebrated their golden wedding yesterday. After their marriage at St. Alary’s Catholic Catlie dral, Wellington, they lived at Eketahuna, then at the Gorge, where Airs Alullan was the first woman to gc through the new railway tunnels then being constructed. ATr Alullan arrived in New Zealand trom Ireland in the early seventies, and Airs Alullan. then Aliss Alargaret Clolierty. arrived in 1883. Air Alullan took up land at Alangatainoka 45 years ago, residing there ever since. One son and three daughters of a family of six, survive., and include Airs .T. Connolly of Palmerston North, and Air C. AY. Alullan, of Oliau, Levin.
