The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon and there was an excellent attendance of members. Airs 'Keith Waterson, of Linton, was a visitor, and the president, Airs A. W. Bird, extended a warm welcome to lfc'r. She was at one time a member and secretary of tho local Institute. Airs Waterson presented a prize for a future competition. All helpers for. tho recent dance were thanked for their help and co-operation.- Tho dance balance-sheet was read. In the potato-growing competition Aliss Strahan was first, with 321 b; Airs J. Jensen second with 171 b; and Miss Stanley third with 121 b.: As Miss Strahan had donated the special prize she desired it to be presented to Airs J. Jensen. It was decided to purchase a leawagon. Three now members were welcomed, Alesdames AV. Hogan, J. R. Osborne and J. Smith. At the next meeting Airs Barnicoat will speak on “Immigration” and the competitions will be “best flower in the garden,” Scotch shortbread (W. I. Cookery Book recipe), and best Peggy square. At tho conclusion of the meeting, all •members adjourned to the big hull, whore with Women Division members, an interesting demonstration was witnessed. Mr AV. McKay, a member of the Alanawatu-Oroua Power Board, introduced Afrs Barrington, the demonstrator. The making and cooking of scones, biscuits, a sponge role and puff pastry were ably shown and followed by a deeply interested gathering, mostly armod with note books arid pencils. Alembers of the AVomen’s Division met at the close of the demonstration for a short meeting. It was decided to postpone the usual monthly meeting to a later date. There was an excellent attendance at the fortnightly euchre in aid of the School Radio Fund. The winners were Alrs.tT. Smith and Air IC. Lewis. The consolation . prizes were won by Airs McNae and ATr' J. R. Osborne. Supper was provided by tho ladies and Airs J. Smith played for a short dance afterwards. A handicap golf competition was played off recently and Airs A. AV. Bird and D. C. Buckman handed in the best cards. Mr Coombridgo has returned from Dannevirke, where he was attending the Mothodist Synod. Airs AAkitcrson, of Linton, is visiting her mother Airs J. Buckman. Airs McKay, of Taumarunui, who has been the guest of her daughter,
Mrs C. Mclntyre, is now. staying with her mother, Mrs; Osborne,. senr.. of Makirio, for a few clays.
