BOXING AND WRESTLING.

Some of the followers of the glove sport can never be persuaded into going to a wrestling bout and. by the same token, some wrestling patrons regard the art of self-defence as a thing of the past. On Wednesday next, at the Opera House, a combined tourney arranged by the officials of the Wrestling Association and the Boxing Association, will bo staged, wherein five amateur events from each code will be fought, and the onlookers can decide for themselves as to which is the more spectacular. P. O’Neill arid J. Collins will decide a disputed superiority. Lost year R. Porter, of Shannon, and young D. Coughlan put up one of the best amateur bouts ever seen here, standing toe-to-toe and trading punches for at least two out of the three rounds. The memory of that fight has prompted the matching committee to let them meet again and see if this time they can reach a clear-cut decision. There will bo five fights and five wrestling bouts, and in some instances, where there is no one in sight to oppose the lads picked to eom-l pete, outsiders from Wellington. Hawke’s Bay or Wanganui will bo asked to match them. As it' is the intention of the combined committees to hold more of these shilling tourneys, every effort will be made to get good matching. At the prico there should bo _ a great crowd at the Opera House on' Wednesday."'
