PAHIATUA, June 2. Mr D. O’Brien was rc-elected chairman at the annual meeting of the Scarborough Domain Board. The financial statement revealed a revenue of £33 3s lOd, as against a total expenditure to £lO 14s lOd. The activities of the board last year were confined to maintenance work and a similar programme was indicated for the ensuing period.

The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild Coronation Fair proved a success. Those in charge of stalls were: —Produce, Mesdames J. MacDonald and P. Jackson; cake, Mesdames R. L. Dailey and O. Dreaver and Misses K. Dick and I. Henderson; needlework, Miss A. Henderson and Mrs K. L. Warren; Ballance, members of the Ballance Ladies’ Guild; Ruawhata, Mrs W. Fergus and Misses E. Fergus and M. Pryde ; Hukanui, Mesdames J. Sutherland, Rice, Lemberg and G. Gray; tearooms, Mesdames Winter, Gunn and Miss Gibson. In the evening a number of competitions were held, the results being as follow: Bean board, Mrs E. E. Etz; women’s nail driving, Mrs E. E. Etz; men’s nail driving (afternoon), Mr E. E. Udy ; (evening), Mr 11. Henderson; women’s candle lighting, Miss K. Dick; men’s candle lighting, Rev. Iv. L. Warren. The returns for the effort amounted to slightly over £4O. Mr M. Moriarty presided over a meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The Dannevirke and district R.S.A. wrote regarding the promotion of a hospital benefits scheme in the Wairarapa district. It was decided to hold the matter over pending legislation by the Government in connection with the health insurance scheme. Four new members were elected. Votes of appreciation for services rendered were passed to Mr A. W. Hamilton and the choir, the Ministers’ Association, and Mr Biclc and co-workers. It was decided to invite the Pahiatua Municipal Band to the annual reunion dinner. The executive approved of the-provi-sions of the declaration of trust in respect of the settlement of Walton Park. Mr M. Lawson was appointed a delegate to the conference of New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Associations. It. was agreed to transfer from the relief account £75 to the trustees of the Walton Park Trust.

Mr W. .T. Henderson presided over a meeting of the Bush Rugby Union. Mr Guy Udy, on behalf of the Hukanui Club, waited on the committee and stated that J. G’orkill had been granted a transfer from the Pukotoi SubUnion. The club desired to know if he could he played next week as they wore short of players. The chairman pointed out that if any player had only played two senior games lie was still classified as a junior. The Jliiknnui Club protested against T. It was intimated by the Rangitikei Sub-Union that, in view of the proposed conference to consider the revision of the Beddington Shield rules not being held, they would refrain from challenging for the shield. The secretary was instructed to invite delegates from the four shield unions and Te Kawau to a conference in Paliiatua regarding the matter. There were three transfers and eight regradings. It was decided to remind clubs that the union requires half of the money collected in view of the decision to give the junior clubs home and home matches. The junior selector asked that the junior representative team be given a game with the Dannovirke juniors before the match for the Gillespie Trophy against Horowlienua. This was agreed to and it was left to the secretary to arrange a match in June. PAHIATUA, June 3. Mr E. Mcxted presided over a meeting of the executive of the Bush Hockey Association last evening, when a decision was made to challenge for the Nordon Cup. Gratification was expressed at the affiliation of the Eketahuna men’s club. It was resolved to nominate four players to the New Zealand Association for representative honours. Ten men’s teams and seven women’s have been entered for the King’s Birthday tourney. The following 1 are the vital statistics of Pahiatua for May, the figures for the same period of last year in parentheses : Births. 10 (11); deaths, 5 (5); marriages, 5 (1). The postmaster (Mr C. S. Can-ad) reports the following details of motor registration as at May 31. Motor cars. 653; motor trucks, etc., 127; motor cycles, 28. “Before Mr J. D. Wilson.' District Coroner, in the Pahiatua Court yesterday morning, evidence was taken relating, to the accident to the late Mr J- W. Mills. The Coroner’s finding was that deceased died from myelitis due to an iniury to his spine, caused by accidentally falling from a. ladder during the course of his work.
