Mended His Ways. Tho South Canterbury Handicap winner, Milford, was nearly suspended from further participation in flat racing a couple of seasons ago. He wa,s an accomplished kicker, a menace to horses and fixtures. On'one occasion he smashed a box (high on a post) containing part of the electrical ecpiipmcnt for operating the barrier, and on another made short work of a stall designed to control unruly ones at the post. He displayed good form as a stayer and weight-carrier in the hack ranks, and won the Southland Cup. After a spell of about a year he was placed in R. E. McLellati’s

stable, and rosunied racing during the autumn. A noticeable improvement was apparent in bis manners at Washdyke, and ho now gives comparatively little trouble, says a southern writer. Riccarton Stables

Dropped Catch will not raco again until tho Grand National Steeplechase meeting. Though his racing has been limited, he has shown good form and has now been eased up. Black Banner’s Form.

Black Banner, lop-weight in both the Tahuna and Otago Steeplechases at the corning Dunedin meeting, won tho Otautau Steeplechase at tho Otautau meeting on Saturday last. An aged black gelding by Balboa —Black and Red marc, lie has some excellent cross-country form to his credit this season, and though ho may find the ' opposition stronger at Dunedin, Ills, form makes him look a hard horse to beat., Palustrls for Stud.

The New Zealand-bred filly Palustris ran so poorly in the South Australian St. Logcr last month that her owner, Mr J. Keith Angas, has decided to retire her to tho stud and she will bo mated next season with his imported sire Duke John. High Test's Run.

High Test was closer at tho end than at any other stage of the Kcbbell Memorial at Foxton to finish sixth. It was quite a satisfactory effort and he pulled up well. .The outing should improve him and R. Barlow should experience little difficulty in placing him to advantage before long, fays a Taranaki writer. Travelling Agont. Though not engaged at Kllerslie, Travelling Agent has been schooling well at To 1 Rapa. Pelmet in Work. Pelmet has been put into work again at Riccarton by T. H. Gillctt. A useful two-voar-old, Pelmet did not develop form to any extent this season, 'but. she was not raced much, having only nine runs, and she may come up better in the new term. Among the proposals to the Racing CcinVroiice next month that are sponsored by Iho executive committee arc that the existing rule debarring fho registration of a racing club within 20 miles of tjm course i f an existing club be deleted; that the Iprosent 7.7 minimum for flat races- be retained, excepting for tho two principal flat handicaps on each day of a meeting; and that tho time limit of waiting for a fractious horse at the barrier be three minutes. [Related to Derby Horse. Thcro is particular interest in tho placing of Lc Grand Duo in the Epsom Derby for Now Zealand breeders of thoroughbreds, for that colt is a half-brother to Bulandjhar, now at the stud in the Dominion. Tho winner, Mid-day Sun, started eight jtimes as a two-year-old, winning a race lover a milo and being placed in two other >ma!l events. He was not discussed as a passibility in English sporting journals and, 'apparently, lie had done very little racing tide year, prior to last month at any rate.
