MASSEY COLLEGE WIN.
TOO FAST FOR AVOODVILLE. Showing flashes of brilliance, though obviously not yet moulded into a ma-chine-like unit, the Massey College side playing Woodville on the s ground, won by 10 points to 0. Ihe \Voodville team strove valiantly, but could not combat an effective scrum and faster backs. The teams were as follow: — , _ „ r,, . AVoodville.—Reynolds, Bolton, Skinner, Smith, L. Booth, E. Booth, Ansin, Bryson, J. Burlace, Halpin, J. McKmlay, C. McKinlay, AV. McKinlay, Carpenter, Stewart. Massey College.—Campbell, Robinson, Bail, Keals, Francis, Stewart, Blyth, Sutton, Dixon, McKee, Green, Graham, Irving, Terry, Thurston. Flay hung in mid field for a period at the outset, several passing movements on both sides being either broken up or failing to carry beyond the centre-three-quarter. Francis broke away well for the visitors, but ns sidestep and resulting run took him too far ahead of liis team-mates for a sure transfer. A short time afterwards Campbell attempted to score a held goal with a drop-kick which, although a o-ood effort, was not success! ul. iVliissey Coli-ege made strenuous efforts to score from passing bouts, and although the passing was tree it was inflective. A touch-down was followed by a scium and College took the ball to clear. 1. Booth misrielded a kick, and when he kicked in return College got possession and thrust deep. Fiay was transferred to the opposite corner and 1 lands picked up in the loose to hand on to Irving, who dashed over in the coiner. The kick, by Francis, was unsuccessful. College had several attempts to open up the play, but the home side were on to them so quickly as to stifle them. A hot forward rush was effectively countered by Reynolds and a minute later lie kicked to the College line from well up the field foi Stewart to put the ball out near the 25 yards line. College were forced to touch down in the face of a loose rush, the AVoodville forwards thereattei keeping the ball well inside the College territory for a period. Kicking and following up saw play go to the other end and Sutton put in a Lu'locking run that went near to the AAoodulle line. Mispassing was 1( > ilo " c( | 1 * scrum. A moment later the ball vent out to Robinson, who showed a beautiful turn of speed to be pulled down only when nearly down on the line. In a following scramble I rancis crossed, but Terry’s kick tailed. Half-time iol- ‘° Massey College had the better of the gaum for a long period and then Builaee uroke out with a fine mil. gave a bad pass to Ansin, bi t the latter carried on to’ the cornel. 1. Booth took a penalty kick, hut was unsuccessful. Terr- broke an ay ni loose and sent the ball, on to Sutton and Robinson, who reverse-passed before they were stopped. Robinson then gained another 20 van > with a sharp dash The ball went to mid-field and the home side took it ' a 'i' ay ’ 1 '.‘•lif a turned attack into defence with a magnificent mil, but he crowded h, outside men at the close of ns fonvards Iwd’bjr that time to put more vigour into the pay.
