FEILDING 0.8. v. ST. PATRICK'S. Rugby enthusiasts were afforded thrills at Johnston Park on Saturday afternoon, when up till the last minute of play St. Patrick's looked the winners with a lead of five points over their opponents, Feilding Old Boys. A victory tor the visitors seemed certain, but when time came the points on the score board were equal. Feilding Old Boys' efforts to effect at least a draw proved successful when, from a scrum, J Uew-e sent the leather on to N. Ball to H. Dewe, who scrambled across the 'line to score. McKewen guardian for St Patrick's, made a gallant effort to frustrate the possibility of a score but his attempt to wrestle the ball from Dewe was unavailing, the latter liancing on until he had accomplished his objective. Then came the masterniece Jack Finlay was set the task of converting the try to equalise and from an awkward angle he lifted the ball cleanly and accurately, the leather oassinir between the uprights ]ust above the cross-bar. He received a ureat ovation from the spectators. All through the game there were many mistakes made by both fifteens. Mishandling, unfinished passing movement and offside play characterised Ihe game. R. Gillespie’s kick moved play into Old Boys territory, where a further tree kick was secured by St. Patrick s. Pressure in which R. Gillespie and Donovan were partnered was relieved by Thompson, who found the side-line at midfield. The ensuing play found R. Gillespie in possession, with Donovan in support. The latter accepted the leather and centred, to make an opening for Fell and Powell, whose efforts to score were frustrated b.Y Thompson. A passing movement in which Pawson, Ball and B rani well featured prominently compelled McKevven to get rid of the ball to the sule-hne, 10 yards out from the goal-line.
