RUGBY FOOTBALL.

The annual Rugby match between the Massey College and Kia Toa football clubs for the Cooper-McKenzie trophy (a football which was used when Canterbury won the Ranfurly Shield from Manawatu and which was autographed bv the visiting team) was held on Saturday. The match was won by Kia Toa by 24 poinTs to 18. The play was open and the Kia Toa forwards were seen to very good advantage, while the backs were satisfactory. College fielded a good set of forwards, while their backs were very good. For Kia Toa, tries were scored by McKenzie, Barnao (2). White (2) and Simpson. Carr provided the extra points with conversions. For Massey College, Morrison, Ball, F. Campbell and Thurston each scored a try. Terry., converted one and Stewart two. Kia Toa have now won the trophy on three occasions and Massey College on two. HAWKE'S BAY SEASON OPENS. The 1937 Rugby football season in Hawke's Bay was opened on Saturday when the senior club championship competition was commenced at Napier and Hastings. Results were as follow: Napier H. 5.0.8. 16 v. Celtic 10; Marist 12 v. Pirates 8; Hastings 13 v. M.A.C. 12; Hastings H. 5.0.8. 17 v. Havelock North 11.
