YESTERDAY MORNING'S PLAY. Semi-finals in the Manawatu Golf Club’s Easter championship tournament were decided yesterday. when J. P. Hornabrook (New Zealand amateur champion), beat O. H. Williams (Manawatu) in a game which was carried to the last green, and T. H. Horton (Masterton) beat G. A. Adamson (Hokitika). . . Coincident with the championship semi-finals, the finals of the respective group handicaps were decided this morning. The Hokowhitu course was in first-class condition, the ram overnight having slowed it up a little, and it bore a beautiful appearance. , , Though Williams finished with a better medal round score, going round in the equivalent of 74. compared with his opponent’s 75. They started the return journey with a pair of fours, but Williams recovered one when he secured a nice birdie three at Land’s End. Putting for twos at Lagoon Hill, they halved it in threes. Hornabrook won liJ is. 5—6. Williams missing a putt, and they halved the 14th in fours. Taking two to get out of the bunker. Hbrnabrook lost the 15th. 6—4, and tnen the 16th, 5—4, after being in the bunker with his second. They halved the last two holes in fours, Williams missing a long putt at the last to square the match. He came home in 36, compared with his opponent s 40. Horton was playing right up to form, and the former New Zealand champion accounted quite comfortably for Adamson, who had eliminated AD. S. Duncan on Sunday. One semi-final of the Hokowhitu Handicap, for players eliminated ill the first round of the championship, was won by E. Fletcher (Remuera), who beat E. ‘R. Chapman (Manawatu) on the 19th green. Chapman was out in 36 and turned for home 2 up, but Fletcher gradually overhauled him. Details of play up to 1 p.m. were as follow: CHAMPIONSHIP. Semi-finals. J P. Hornabrook (Manawatu) beat O. H.
