AOKAUTERE.

(From Out- Own C'orresuondent.) AOKAUTERE, March 27. The Methodist Church's harvest, lestival service was taken by Rev. Air Seotter. There was a fine display ot fruit, produce, etc. It had been arranged that this should be sold at a social evening but this event, however, has been postponed. The annual general meeting of the Fitzherbert East Hall Committee was held on Wednesday evening, there being a fair attendance. Air W. Anderson presided. The report stated, inter alia; — “The Hall has been used extensively and is in a good financial position; the building is in good order generally, with no apparent expenditure nocessary, unless the outside is painted in the near future. The interior improvements carried out during the past, two years have made the hall most comfortable. The main receipts canto from the euchre evenings conducted throughout the winter months, while the main expenses incurred were for the repairs and altera tions to the stage and Hall interior. In conclusion, I wish to thank the members of the committee for their assistance during the year; Air Gough for auditing the books, and those ladies and gentlemen who assisted with the music during the course of the winter socials.” Air L. Craven was voted to the chair, the election of officers resulting as follow :—Chairman, Air Win. Anderson (rc-electcd); secretary-treasurer, Air W. 11. Hopc-roft (re-elected); auditor. Air F. Gough (re-elected); committee, Alcssrs L. Craven, L. Hastings, F. Judd, W. Gosling, sent-., W. Gosling, junr., A. Hopcroft, J. Woodley, It. Brill, J. P. Robertson, J. Petersen and B. Mitchell. Correspondence was received from the Whakarongo Hall Committee, notifying the order of play for the euchre challenge shield and enclosing a copy of the rules. The Aokautere Women’s Institute wrote conveying thanks for the use of the Hall for meetings. It was resolved that the committee meet on the first Tuesday in every alternate month. After some discussion," it was agreed that the committee should conduct alternate “500” and euchre tournaments during the winter months, Alessrs L. Craven and W. Gosling, junr., being appointed to draw up rules governing play in the “500” tournaments. It was also decided not to conduct the usual aggregate competition. The chairman was authorised to purchase a supply of new cards, as well as several other requirements. Having been discussed at length, it was decided that the matter of granting local bodies tho free use of the Hall should be loft to the discretion of the committee. A vote of thanks to tho chairman for his services was carried by acclamation. Air Anderson, in replying, thanked the mombers and said that anything done by him had been a pleasure.
