EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” MARCH 29, 1907. Mr Justice Button was presiding at a.fitting of the Supreme Court in Palmerston North. Mr Myers and Mr Skerrctt were the counsel engaged in one ease. The Indomitable, the largest cruiser m the world, had been launched at Glasgow. The Rotomahana (from Ihamos) and the Kestrel (a ferry steamer) had collided in the harbour at, Auckland. Mr Upton Sinclair s Socialistic colony at New Jersey had been destroyed b.v fire. The members bad escaped only in their night attire. , . Great floods at Pittsburg had caused damage to the extent of £2,000,000 and had left 20,000 persons homeless. The Khedive had expressed the opinion that the Egyptians could manage their own affairs of government. The 'limes (London) had countered with the counsel that the Khedive confine his activities to putting clown departmental corruption and favouritism. .
