PLEA FOR DENMARK

DRIFT TOWARD GERMANY. Condemning Denmark’s import license system as a nuisance to that nation and to most of her neighbours, Anders Oerne, Postmaster-General of Sweden,, urges Britain to keep Denmark from drifting more and more under the lee of Germany. “The key to a preliminary solution of the problem of the Danish foreign exchange control system lies in the hands of Britain. “It was Britain who caused Danish farmers to demand, or at least tolerate, a system of British protectionism which is actually ruining Denmark and is driving her toward other anchorages. “Neither from the British nor from a general viewpoint does this seem desirable. By opening the doors a little more to Danish produce, Britain would benefit her consumers, and serve political and economic interests.”
