CANADIAN DISPUTE.

PREMIER’S STATEMENT. MONTREAL, Dec. 18. The Premier of Ontario (Hon. M. F. Hepburn) has issued a statement alleging that the former Premier of Quebec (Mr L. A. Taschereau) tried to forced the Ontario Government to continue power contracts with four Quebec companies by threats to stop the entire export of Ontario and plunge Eastern Ontario in darkness, also to commit sabotage by pulling the plugs in the sluice gates on the Quebec side of Chats Falls. The development of the threat was thwarted by the purchase of a frequency changer by the Hydro Commission, making all Ontario independent of the Quebec supply.
