WHEAT COMMITTEE.

FIRST MEETING HELD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dee. 8. The first meeting was held to-day of the Wheat Cost Investigation Committee. Mr J. S. Barton is chairman of the committee, and associated with him are Dr. Weston, of Lincoln College, Messrs L. J. Schmitt, in charge of the Department of Industries and Commerce, R. McPherson, A. Grant, H. Worrall, C. S. Sapsford, and D. O. Williams. The sittings will not he open to the Press, and all evidence will be treated as confidential. Accountants and solicitors will be allowed to appear to .assist witnesses if so desired. The committee will visit farms also and may hear evidence there. The committee’s desire is to obtain all the information possible on what it costs to grow wheat in New Zealand. On the conclusion of its sittings the committee will submit a report to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who is chairman of tho Wheat Committee of New Zealand.
