DOG ATTACKS CHILD.

SEQUEL IN COURT. Remarking that the owner of the fox terrier dog which attacked and bit a child, Joan Lorraine Mitchell, on November 13, showed lack of control by allowing it to be teased on a number of occasions, the Magistrate, Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., fined D. R. Bryce £l, with 18s costs, in the Court to-day. The child, in evidence, stated that she was playing in a drive off Te Awe Awe Street at 6 p.m. on the evening in question when the dog chased her and bit- her on the thigh. She had done nothing to tease the dog. George Skinner averred that he saw the child playing in his drive, but took no notice until he heard her scream and run towards the house. She tripped and the dog then seized her leg, shaking her before running off. He considered the clog was more mischievous than vicious. Mr F. Opie, who appeared lor de fendant, stated, that while it was apparent the dog actually did bite the child, no complaint had been made at the time. The defendant, her husband and a neighbour gave evidence to show that tho dog was used to playing with children and though it was often teased and had had stones thrown at it, it had never previously sliowns any signs of viciousness.
