AMENDING LEGISLATION. COST TO BRITAIN. (United Press Association- By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 7, 111.30 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 6. A White Paper explains that the amending Empire Settlement Act extends over fifteen years and provides for an annual expenditure not to exceed a million and a half, instead ol the previous maximum amount of three millions, though actually it had ne\er exceeded £1,280,000. The average from 1923 to 1929 was only £BOO,OOO. The average estimated cost to the United Kingdom under the agreed schemes of all kinds, other than development or land settlement schemes, is approximately £ll per assisted migi'ant.
