GERMAN JEWS.
INFLUX INTO SOUTH AFRICA. There was an influx in October of 1000 German Jews who wished to enter South Africa before the new regulations began to operate, requiring immigrants to possess' actual cash, instead of merely a guarantee that they will not become a charge on the State. The entry of these German Jews has given rise to meetings of protest throughout the country, and has revived anti-Semitism. The Nationalists have not -hesitated to make political capital out of the movement.
The Minister for Education (Air Hofmevr), referring to speeches by professors at a meeting called by students at Stellenbosch, accused them of participating in party politics and fostering anti-Semitism. Six professors, in reply, have accused tlie Alinister of slandering a distinguished profession. Legislation, which is prom.scd next session, will probably disallow the entry of immigrants who do not possess two-way passports. German Jews are not supplied with such passports.
