TERRACE END SCHOOL. RESULTS OF RACES. Though the Terrace End School sports and gala were held in fine weather on Saturday afternoon, fears of impending rain led to the programme being conducted with the greatest expedition, the object being to complete the children’s events before the weather broke. " However, the conditions held. The function had been very efficiently organised by the men’s and ladies’ committees and the staff. There was an excellent attendance. The inter-house championship was won by Olympic with 110 i points. Kia Toa were second with 63 points, Rangers third with 40, and Nomads fourth with 29£. Three records were broken during the afternoon . Norma Childs, in winning the girls’ 75 yards junior championship, clipped 3-ssec off the record established for the event in 1933 by Beulah Tarr. The combined relay (each runner 100 yards) was run in 45.4-ssec, compared with the previous record of sUsec; and Wallace Scott, reaching a height of 4ft Gin, added two inches to the high jump record.

Conducted by an enterprising band of ladies in tents on the school grounds, the stalls did brisk business under the supervision of the following :—Cakes : Mesdames Mcßean (convener), R. C. Donald, H. Cunningliame, M. Burrell and F .Lucas. Produce : Mesdames Davies alid Cater. Ice-cream: Mesdames J. Barsanti, C. A. Anderson, T. Bragg and A. Andrew. Fancy work: Miss Mcßean. Afternoon tea was served in the school buildings. This was under the control of Mesdames Petersen, Ellery, Daly, Moohan, F. Smith, H. Smith, Boag, E. L. Christian, and Wilson. General assistance at the stalls was given by Mesdames Rainforth and McNab.

Judged by Mesdames D. Evans and Shelley, the baby show resulted as follows:—Under six months. —Boys, Mrs Lush’s baby 1, Mrs Glasgow’s baby 2; girls, Mrs Hay’s baby 1, Mrs Butler’s baby 2. Six to 12 months: Boys, Mrs Towler’s baby 1 ; girls, Mrs Malcolm’s baby 1, Mrs Burk’s baby 2.
