NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.

REPLY TO CRITICISM. OSLO, Nov. 27. Dr. Salim (German Minister) has lodged a protest at the Foreign Office from Herr Hitler against the award of the 1935 Nobel Peace Prize to Carl von Ossietzsky, until recently a prisoner in a German concentration camp. The Foreign Minister (M. Koht) intimated that the Nobel Committee was independent of the Government and outside any influence which might be exerted. NO MORE AWARDS. GERMAN DECISION. Received November 28, 9.25 a.m. BERLIN, Nov. 27. Germany is permitting Karl von Ossietzsky to go to Oslo to accepit the Nobel Prize, but . lias decided that in future no Germans will be allowed to accept a prize from the Nobel Committee as at present constituted. Karl von Ossictszky, who is of Polish descent, vas born in October, 1889. He served with the German army in the Great War. In 1928 lie became the editor of a weekly newspaper, the Weltbuenc (World Stage), in which he gave expression to his anti-militarist views. Ho was charged with treason in November, 1931 and sentenced to imprisonment. Ho was liberated under the amnesty granted when Herr Hitler became President, but was warned to flee from Germany, when the Nazis came into power. He was arrested on the day after the Reichstag fire (with w'hich bo had nothing to do), and had been confined in various concentration camps since then on no definite charge, until his release last week.
