ON TO-DAY’S RACING. MAXIMUM FINE IMPOSED. Ten minutes after he had been apprehended by Detective-Sergeant Bickerdike, this morning, Charles Joseph "Williams appeared voluntarily before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, and pleaded guilty to a charge of frequenting and using Main Street for the purpose of tingMr Bickerdike said he had accosted defendant in Mam Street. Defendant had admitted that he was taking bets on the Feilding and Takapuna races, being held to-day, and had taken five bets this morning. The maximum penalty of £IOO. with 10s costs, was imposed by the Magistrate on defendant.
