TRANSPORT CONTROL.
ADDITIONAL INSPECTORS. , Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. In an interview to-day the Minister of Transport (Hon. R. Semple) said that 12 new traffic inspectors would be appointed next week under the Main Highways Board. Selections would be made carefully from 1100 applicants. He was satisfied that, within. 12 months, there would be thoroughly efficient control of the Dominion’s motor transport. The committee which had been inquiring into the taxi and town carrying business was now sitting in Wellington to prepare its report, and he was satisfied that it had done exceptionally good work. The Government would take steps to deal with cut-throat competition and sweating. Referring to a recent meeting of the Safety Council, Mr Semple said that amending legislation might be necessary next session to give effect to some of its recommendations, with a view to tightening stiff further the system or traffic control.
