TAONUI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAONUI, Nov. 25. Tho outstanding success attained at the garden party held last Saturday was revealed. last night, when a meeting was held in the school to report on the function and receive the balance-sheet. Airs R. R. Tait was in the chair, and Mrs F. J. Russell (secretary) read the report and balancesheet. it was found that, with several small sums still to bo received, tho credit amounted to £46 10s. and as the expenses were only £7 6s 4d the committee have tho very satisfactory sum of £39 3s 3d in hand. On behalf of the School Committee, Mr F. R. McFarland (chairman) thanked the ladies’ committee for their vory efficiently organised, controlled, and managed arrangements. It had been very pleasurable to co operate with them, he said, and with the support accorded by the donors and district lesidents the resultant auspicious success was achieved. Thanks were accorded the ladies by acclamation. It was decided to leave the money untouched until after the holidays, when tho consolidation scheme will have been decided and tho committee will have a definite knowledge of thfcir position. If the school is closed, it will be greatly against the wishes of the settlers, whose interest in the continuation of tho school, which will bo celebrating its diamond jubilee in the near future, has undoubtedly been keenly manifest. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded all who had in fiy way helped to bring about the iinancia. and social success of tho function.
