DAMAGES AWARDED
FINDING IN ACCIDENT CASE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. Evidence having been completed yesterday afternoon in the case m the Supreme Court, in which Dorothy ColJin, a widow, of Wellington, claimed £2500 general damages from Percy Withers, taxi proprietor, of Wellington, for the death of her husband in an accident, the jury to-day, before being addressed by counsel, visited the scene of the mishap. Plaintiff’s husband, Frederick Collin, received fatal injuries when his bicycle collided with a taxi driven by Oswald Alexander Lochore, an employee of defendant. Negligence on the part of Lochore was alleged by plaintiff, but this was denied by the defence.
After retiring, the jury found that the taxi-driver had failed to keep a proper look-out and awarded plaiutiff £I7OO damages. Mr Justice Reed, who presided, on the application of counsel for defendant, granted 14 days in which co apply for a new trial.
