(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Oct. 2. Members of the Drama Circle entertained the staff and patients at the Sanatorium on Thursday night, giving a pleasing performance. Mrs R. Fielding sang several solos. The rainfall for the year up to September 30 totalled over 30in. There were fourteen days of rain, and four frosts. Mr and Mrs W. Uiddens celebrated the anniversary of their golden wedding on Wednesday night, when some 90 . guests attended. Several speeches appropriate to the occasion \\-ero made, and All* and Mrs Giddens made the recipients of a number of presentations. the descendants total over 100. At a meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club last night it was decided to open the season next week. The report on the recent ball showed it to be a great social success, but the profits were small. Constable J. Bowman, a most popular and efficient officer, is to be accorded a send-off next week. Constable Bowman, with Constable Shields, of Terrace End, goes to Manor,. The violet season in Otaki has been a splendid one and growers show a good profit. Already the new season's crops have been planted. There was another good run of whitebait in the Otaki streams yesterday and the fish sold readily at 2s 6d a pint. The trout-fishing season' opened in Otaki and district yesterday. One or two good catches were made. A largo crowd assembled at the Ilautcre Hall on Wednesday night to bid farewell to Mr and Airs E. Simpson, who leave the district shortly. Mr Harold Lumsden, on behalf of the residents, presented fhe guest* of the evening with a clock. Mr W. Fielding acted as M.C., while Miss Utiku supplied the music. Mr and Mrs R. Morgan, who have been residents in Otaki for some years, left on Wednesday afternoon to take up their residence in l’almerston North, having purchased a business there. Mr and Mrs Morgan, who have identified themselves with various branches of sport in Otaki, will be greatly missed. Both will carry with them the best wishes of a largo circle of friends. Mr and Mrs Harry Knox, after many years’ residence in Otaki, left on Wednesday night for Ngaio, where they will spend a holiday before taking up their permanent residence in the Bay of Plenty.
