“QUALITY STREET.”
“Quality Street,” by Sir James Barrie, which is being presented at the Opera House by the Little Theatre Society for three nights commencing on Wednesday next, the 7th inst,, is delightful in that jt reereates for the present generation all that was beautiful in the manners and customs of the pre-Victorian era. The production is in the hands of a strong cast under the direction of Mrs S. T. Bristow, and those who appreciate the England of Barrio, England redolent of grace and charm, ladies in their pattens, whimsy cake, the period of the quadrille and the gavotte, the spinet, should not miss this historically correct production. Ladies on reaching a certain age worp caps, the prevailing tone was blue and white, and the furniture bore the imprint of Chippendale and Sheraton. Movement was slow, dignified and stately, “paying attention”' to young ladies was regulated by tho strictest rules, and correct procedure was the measure of proper upbringing. “Quality Street” calls all those who delight in tho production of clean, wholesome comedy dressed and staged according to the period. A feature of the product ion will ho tho musical programme arranged by Miss Mona Dean. Miss Dean associated with Miss Cvntliia Vickery and Mr F. Bull will present a recital of simultaneous pianoforte numbers as overture and entr’acte. These numbers includo “Allegro” (Mozart), “Minuet” (Boccharini), "Minuet in G” (Beethoven) and a gavotte composed by Mr Ernest Jamieson, of Napier, who. has given special permission for the rendition at these performances of an arrangement of his compositions for two pianos by Misses Mona and Winifred Dean.
