TENNIS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Otc. 3. Tennis enthusiasts are now making preparations for the coming season. The annual meeting was held during the week, Mr J. D. ifilgour presiding. During the past season Apiti won the Haythorne Cup, a series of matches being played annually between Kimbolton, Kangiwahia, and Apiti clubs for the trophy. The financial position was shown to bo satisfactory. It was decided to make the subscription 10s this year. The opening of the season will bo held on the first Saturday in November. The courts arc to be topdressed in readiness. The retiring committee and all helpers were formally thanked for all they had done, and the election for the new committee was held. The results were:—Patron, Mr N. K. Goud (re-elected); president, Mr C. Osborne; vicepresidents, Messrs A. It. McNae, T. K. McLean, J. D. Kilgour, W. Duncan, A. E. Prujean IV. 11. Watson; secretary, Mr W. G. Malone; club captain, Mr D. Kearney; executive committee, president, secretary, Mesdames A. R. McNae and J. D. Kilgour, Messrs D. Kearney and J. D. Kilgour. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. At tho monthly meeting on Tuesday afternoon Mrs E. J. P. Simpson, of Woodville, will demonstrate the making of shoes with crepe soles. She will also' give a talk on “Horne hints and health remedies,” and it is sugested members should bring paper and pencils. The competitions will be: (a) Best collection 12 bulbs; (b) decorative bowl (bulbs only); (c) decorative bowl of spring flowers (not bulbs); the two latter classes will be judged for effect; cooking, Madeira cake; handwork, something new from something old (most useful). Members arc also asked not to forget the collection of rags. Tho hostesses will be Mesdames Benscman, Bird, Churchor, and Dobson. PERSONAL. Mrs C. Lucas, of Rewa, is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. Yiles, of the Marton Block. Mrs G. Roberts with her children is on a visit to her mother, Mrs W. J. Vilcs. Rev. A. F. Stewart, of the manse, has been confined to bed all the week with a severe, bronchial cold. WEDDING. The marriage was quietely celebrated yesterday afternoon at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Feilding, of Ida Marie, voungest daughter of Mr G. Malcolm, of Apiti, and Cecil James, second son of Mr and Mrs 31. P. Chapman, of Frasortown. The officiating minister was Rev. A. F. Stewart, of Apiti.
